BIO

William H. Keniry served as a Justice of the Supreme Court of the State of New York from 1986 to 2000. Since then to the present he has practiced law, of counsel, at Tabner Ryan & Keniry, LLP. At Tabner Ryan & Keniry, LLP, he is involved in almost every facet of the firm’s practice, particularly litigation matters, tax certiorari matters, trials and appeals. He also continues to serve in the State judicial system under designation as a Judicial Hearing Officer. He holds the degree of Juris Doctor from Albany Law School, where he was an Associate Editor of the Law Review Board, and the degree of Master of Laws from Georgetown University Law Center. During his active service on the bench he presided over countless trials, many of which received wide media attention. His written decisions chosen for publication in the Official Reports number in the top 5% of those of trial level justices. He is a former Assistant Attorney General of the State of New York, Town Attorney of the Town of Halfmoon and Village Attorney of the Village of Round Lake. He currently serves as a Hearing Officer for the Comptroller of the State of New York. He has been admitted to the practice of law since 1955 and maintained a private law practice for over twenty years in partnership with his father, Patrick J. Keniry.

In April of 1956 he entered the United States Army in the enlisted ranks. Six months later at Fort Knox, Kentucky, he received a direct commission as a First Lieutenant in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps. He attended and completed the Judge Advocate General’s Special Course at the University of Virginia Law School and was then assigned to the Pentagon as Government Appellate Counsel, where he briefed and argued over 200 court martial criminal appeals before four Army Boards of Review and the United States Court of Military Appeals. He served on active duty for three and a half years. At the time of his honorable discharge he had attained the rank of Captain.
